What happens

Jean Maitland and Terry Randall share a room at the Footlights Club, a theatrical boarding house in New York, where a group of hopeful young actresses wait for their big break on Broadway. Jean is out of work and frustrated, while Terry, a wealthy newcomer, is rejected by the other girls. Their rivalry deepens when the successful producer Anthony Powell begins paying attention to the boarding house residents. This episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, broadcast from Hollywood on February 20, 1939, stars Ginger Rogers, Rosalind Russell and Adolphe Menjou in the drama adapted from the stage play Stage Door.

A theatrical boarding house called the Footlights Club, just off Broadway in New York City, and nearby Broadway offices and dance studios.

Listen for: Listen for the sharp exchanges between Jean and Terry as they clash over the boarding house's rules and each other's background, and for Anthony Powell's offices scene where Kay Hamilton faints after a broken appointment.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
