What happens

Selena Peake, a young schoolteacher from Chicago, takes a post in a Dutch farming community after her wealthy father's fortune is lost. She boards with the widowed Mrs. de Jong and meets her son Pervis, a truck farmer, who asks her for lessons in figures. As their friendship deepens, Selena watches Pervis work his land with determination, and the story follows the hardships of farm life and the quiet devotion between them. The transcript covers only the first part of the episode, so the full story is not yet told here.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
