What happens

Robert Cunningham, a Chicago editor's assistant, marries the writer Virginia Stewart after a brief courtship, but soon finds her distant, frightened and unable to sleep. When she begins behaving erratically, he has her committed to a state mental hospital, where Dr. Kik takes over her care. Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1950 adaptation of The Snake Pit, starring Olivia de Havilland, Mark Stevens and Leo Genn. Virginia struggles through treatments, staff meetings and fragmented memories as Dr. Kik works to uncover what happened in May.

Listen for: Dr. Kik's careful questioning of Virginia as she slowly recalls her past

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
