What happens

Clint Barclay, a drifting cowhand, sees a wild seal-brown stallion named Smoky and decides he must have him. After he tames the horse, Clint joins the Richards ranch, where Julie Richards takes an interest in him and the horse. Clint soon hears rumors about his past in Texas, and some of the crew grow suspicious of him. During a roundup, Clint is thrown from Smoky and badly hurt, and Smoky stands guard beside him until help arrives. The story continues from there with Clint recovering at the ranch. This episode of Lux Radio Theatre presents the 1947 adaptation of Will James's Smoky, starring Joel McCrea and Constance Moore.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
