What happens
In 1914 near London, John Carteret and his friend Owen Harding recall a bitter past quarrel. John's niece Kathleen O'Hara later meets Kenneth Wayne, the son of Jerry Wayne, a man John refuses to forgive. As the two young people grow close, Kathleen and Kenneth fall in love, and John's grudge stands between them. The story is told in a radio adaptation of a play, as part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, which aired on April 29, 1940. Barbara Stanwick and Robert Taylor star, with H.B. Warner.
Near London in England, 1914, and an earlier garden and house from about fifty years before.
Characters: John Carteret, Owen Harding, Kathleen O'Hara, Kenneth Wayne, Jerry Wayne, Munyin Claire, Willie, Ellen
Listen for: The moonlit garden scenes and the lingering grudge between John Carteret and the Wayne family.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
