What happens
Yates Martin, a former Kansas farmer and stonecutter, and his wife Sara leave their money troubles in Denver behind as Yates's luck in the Colorado silver fields rises. Starring Edward Arnold and Anita Louise, this Lux Radio Theatre broadcast of April 3, 1939, is host-produced by Cecil B. DeMille. The story follows Yates from a struggling storekeeper in Leadville to a rich and politically ambitious figure, while Sara grows increasingly uneasy about his choices and the costs of his ambition. Their family life is shaped by the swings of boom and bust that defined the mining towns of the period. The episode dramatizes how sudden wealth reshapes a marriage and a man's sense of himself.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
