What happens
Tom Dunson and his young companion Matt Garth drive ten thousand cattle north from Texas toward a railhead in Missouri, where the herd can be sold. The trail is dry and punishing, and the men are worn down by heat, thirst and short rations. Dunson's stern will is tested as the drive grinds on, and tensions rise among the hands. John Wayne, Joanne Drew and Walter Brennan star in this Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Western Red River, broadcast on March 7, 1949. This part of the story covers the early years of the ranch and the start of the drive.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
