What happens
Al Schmidt, a Philadelphia foundry worker, lives as a boarder with his friends Jim and Ella May Merchant. At their anniversary dinner he meets Ruth, and their early courtship unfolds through a bowling date, a hunting trip and a sudden kiss. Their plans are interrupted by news of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Al enlists in the Marines. Ruth promises to wait for him as he leaves on a train. Later, Al is on a dangerous night watch in the Pacific, and the story turns to the wartime hardships that follow. This Lux Radio Theatre broadcast, aired December 31, 1945, stars John Garfield, Eleanor Parker and Dane Clark.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
