What happens
Ernie Mott, a restless young Londoner, returns to his mother's second-hand shop in the city's slums after his wanderings and quarrels with her over his future. Friends and neighbours, including the cellist Aggie and the pianist-tuner's trade he drifts through, shape his days as he meets Ada Brantlin at a fun fair and begins a romance with her. Ernie's mother, unaware that her son knows of her grave illness, finds comfort in his new steadiness. Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1946 adaptation of the RKO film None but the Lonely Heart, with Ethel Barrymore, Brian Aherne and June Duprez, first broadcast on June 3, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
