What happens
Mary Burns, who runs a roadside coffee shop in a quiet Maine town, is drawn into the life of Don Mason, a fugitive wanted for murder and bank looting. When police close in on a shootout at her shop, Mary burns stolen bonds to help him, and she is tried and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. In the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Paramount film, Miriam Hopkins plays the title role opposite Henry Fonda as Alec McDonald, with Mary Astor and Paul Guilfoyle also featured. The episode follows Mary's time behind bars, her escape with fellow inmate Goldie Gordon, and her search for work under an assumed name. This guide covers only the first part of the broadcast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
