What happens
Margie McDuff, a high school debater, is embarrassed when her skating bloomers come loose in front of her friends and classmates. She is also uneasy about her father, an undertaker, whom she rarely sees. Her classmate Roy Peters walks her home, while the new French teacher, Mr. Fontaine, takes an interest in her. Her grandmother, a former suffragette, encourages her spirited views. The story unfolds at a school debate and an afternoon ice-skating outing. This is the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of Margie, broadcast October 22, 1951, starring Jean Crane and Herbert Marshall.
A small town in the late 1920s, centered on Central High School, a library, a skating rink and the McDuff home.
Characters: Margie McDuff, Mr. Fontaine, Roy Peters, Mary Bell, Johnny Green, Grandma McSweeney, Miss Palmer, Angus McDuff
Listen for: Margie's skating mishap, the debate on Nicaragua, and Mr. Fontaine's first encounter with her.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
