What happens

Mike Regan, a New York newspaper reporter, is assigned to write about the Pickering Institute, where a gifted six-year-old girl named Alpha is being educated by a team of professors. Mike's girlfriend Katie grows impatient with his broken plans as he becomes absorbed in the child's world. Alpha has been raised entirely inside the institute and believes in the magic of the outside world, and she asks Mike to show her what she has never seen. The story is adapted from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film Lost Angel, and this Lux Radio Theatre production features Margaret O'Brien, James Craig, Marcia Hunt and Keenan Wynn. Only the opening of the play is covered here.

New York City, in the offices of a morning newspaper, at the Pickering Institute, and in the streets and nightclubs of Times Square

Characters: Mike Regan, Alpha, Katie, Pake, Professor Vincent, Professor Caddy, Dr. Woodring

Listen for: Alpha's innocent questions about magic and fairy tales, and Mike's growing attachment to her

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
