What happens

In 1850 New Orleans, the vain and headstrong Julie Marsden, played by Loretta Young, quarrels with her fiancé Preston Dillard, played by Jeffrey Lynn, over her choice of a red dress for the Proteus Ball. Her defiance angers Preston, who is a banker and fears for his standing in the city, and she then turns to Buck Cantrell, played by Brian Donlevy. The Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Jezebel story, broadcast on November 25, 1940, opens at a party where Julie arrives late and tensions rise between the men. The episode, produced by Cecil B. DeMille, sets up the conflict between Julie's pride and the social rules of the Southern city.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
