What happens

Polly and Phil Baxter, a household strapped for cash with three children, discover that money appears in their backyard, first as a five-dollar bill blown in through a window and then as bills falling from a tree. Their daughter Diane has her own plans, and Ralph, a bank employee, becomes part of the family's affairs. Polly and Phil argue over whether the money can be spent, and the household's budget becomes the center of the story. This Lux Radio Theatre production, broadcast November 16, 1953, stars Ginger Rogers as Polly, with Marcia Henderson and Greg Palmer in the leading roles.

A suburban American household and its backyard, late 1950s-era domestic life, with scenes at home, at a bank and at a police station.

Characters: Polly Baxter, Phil Baxter, Diane Baxter, Ralph, Flip Baxter, Midge Baxter, Mrs. Pryor

Listen for: Polly's reasoning about the money appearing from the trees and Phil's insistence that it cannot legally be spent.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
