What happens
Pip, a village boy, meets an escaped convict in a churchyard and gives him food and a file. Years later, a mysterious benefactor sends Pip to London to be educated as a gentleman, and he is placed under the care of the lawyer Mr. Jaggers. In London he falls for Estella, the beautiful and cold young woman he first met at the eerie house of the reclusive Miss Havisham. Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of Charles Dickens's novel Great Expectations, starring Robert Cummings as Pip, Anne Blythe as Estella, Howard De Silva as Jaggers and Lee J. Cobb as Magwitch. The episode was first broadcast on October 13, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
