What happens
Reporters Kurt Devlin and Ellen Garfield compete for the same story at North Prison, where a woman is about to be executed. Their rivalry deepens when Ellen's copy turns out to match Kurt's word for word, and each accuses the other of betrayal. Later a three-alarm fire at the Granger Arms apartments brings them back into the chase, and Kurt's paper prints a report that Marvin Stone has vanished from the scene. Ellen soon finds that Stone is dead, and the two of them race to uncover the unknown man and the mysterious woman who were with him. This episode of Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on January 16, 1939, stars Fred MacMurray and Paulette Goddard, with Roscoe Karns. The reporters trade jabs and deadlines as they press their search.

Listen for: Ellen and Kurt trading barbs in the newsroom, and the discovery of Marvin Stone's perfume-scented suit.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
