What happens
In 1844 New York, Miranda Wells, a plain-spoken Yankee farm girl, goes to live at Dragonwick, the grand Hudson River estate of her distant cousin Nicholas Van Rhein, a Dutch patroon who rules over tenant farmers. Miranda becomes companion to Nicholas's young daughter Katrina, and the household's tensions grow. Nicholas's wife Joanna is unwell, and the rent dispute between Van Rhein and his tenants draws in Dr. Jeff Turner. Dragonwick is drawn from the 20th Century Fox film, and this adaptation is presented on Lux Radio Theatre, with Jean Tierney as Miranda and Vincent Price as Nicholas.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
