What happens

Ruth Wilkins, a young New York woman, is about to become engaged to banker Albert Cummer when Lieutenant Bill Seacroft, a returning airman, arrives at the Wilkins home expecting to marry her. He has been writing to her through a wartime correspondence, unaware that the letters were actually sent by her younger sister Miriam. Ruth's parents, Judge Wilkins and Edith, try to make sense of the confusion as the lieutenant and Ruth spend an evening together. This Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Norman Krasna play Dear Ruth, broadcast on April 26, 1948, stars Joan Caulfield, William Holden and Billy De Wolfe.

Listen for: Miriam's sixty-three letters to the lieutenant and the family's reaction when Bill arrives

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
