What happens

Ed Hutchison, managing editor of the New York daily The Day, learns that the newspaper founded by John Garrison is being sold by the Garrison family, and that the buyer is the rival Standard. Hutchison also investigates racketeer Thomas Rienzi, whose men attack his reporter Boris. His former wife Nora, now engaged to another man, meets him for dinner, and he struggles with the end of both his paper and their marriage. Ed's pursuit of the Rienzi story intensifies as a murdered woman, Sally Gardner, is linked to Rienzi. This is Deadline USA, an episode of the Lux Radio Theatre. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
