What happens

Alex Winkler, a young sailor on leave in New York, wakes after a night he cannot fully remember, with $1,400 in his pocket that he believes he took from a restaurant owner named Edna Bartelli. He turns for help to June Gough, a dancehall girl, and together they return to Edna's apartment, where they find her dead. Alex has six hours before his bus leaves, and the two set out to trace the money, a bounced check and a blonde woman who was seen leaving the area. The story is told as a race against the clock to prove Alex innocent before the police arrive.

New York City, on a steaming August night in 1946

Listen for: The growing tension as Alex and June search Edna's apartment and follow the clues across the city

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
