What happens
Henry Wheeler, a solid citizen of the fashionable suburb of Elm Ward, arrives home by train and runs into Clarence, an eccentric former army man who drives a taxi he does not own. The mix-up draws the household into a string of misunderstandings. Clarence is hired to fix the hot water heater and soon finds himself in the middle of family quarrels, a hunger strike, and a romance involving Wheeler's daughter Cora and a fortune hunter named Tobias. This is an episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on January 24, 1938, starring Bob Burns in the title role with Gail Patrick and Thomas Mitchell.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
