What happens
Johnny Blake, a former detective, joins the racketeer Al Kruger after being fired from the police force, while a crusading radio speaker, Ward Bryant, campaigns against organized crime. The transcript follows Bryant's broadcast warnings, his murder in a city street, and the rackets run by Kruger and his men, including the numbers game run by Lee Morgan. Blake works his way into Kruger's organization as the new police commissioner begins a crackdown. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's 1939 adaptation of the Warner Brothers film Bullets or Ballots, starring Edward G. Robinson, Mary Astor, Humphrey Bogart and Otto Kruger, first broadcast on April 17, 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
