What happens

Peter Standish, an American, finds in his ancestral house in Berkeley Square a diary and letters that seem to tie him to the eighteenth century. Talking with his friend John, he suggests that he can walk into the past. In the 1784 house, Peter arrives on a rainy evening and is welcomed by Kate and Helen Pettigrew, while the family plans a match for Kate. Ronald Coleman and Merle Oberon star in this episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, broadcast on December 18, 1944.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
