What happens

In Paris during the Reign of Terror, a condemned prisoner named Charles Darnay shares a cell with a seamstress named Lizette, who is also awaiting execution. Darnay begins to tell her the story of his life. Twenty-five years earlier, a Dover mail coach is stopped on a dark road by a rider bringing word from London. Jarvis Lorry is sent to the wine shop of Madame Defarge in Saint Antoine to recall a long-imprisoned man, Dr. Manette, to life. The story then moves to England, where a trial brings together Dr. Manette, his daughter Lucy, Charles Darnay and the reckless barrister Sidney Carton. This Lux Radio Theatre production stars Ronald Coleman and Edna Best, and is adapted from Charles Dickens's novel.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
