What happens

Lum and Abner tells of Lum Edwards, who has vanished from Pine Ridge while the police and townsfolk search for him. Abner Peabody, who mortgaged his store and home to raise money for Lum's bail, believes he will lose everything and holds a closing-out sale at the Jot 'Em Down Store. Grand Pappy Spears and others debate Lum's troubles and whereabouts, and talk turns to Mexico and a new business. Abner speculates about Lum's flight, and the mystery of Lum's disappearance and the bail matter are still unresolved in this part of the episode. The series is a long-running American radio comedy, and this episode aired on March 30, 1942, on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, starring Chester Lauck and Norris Goff, with Lurene Tuttle also featured.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
