What happens
Lum and Abner's store in Pine Ridge is quiet until Cedric arrives asking about a stranger who carries a lantern in daylight and hands out honesty buttons. Abner and Lum discuss the man, who has been tipping generously at Luke's restaurant and says he is searching for an honest man. Talk turns to his odd habits and to a past story about sleeping in a tub, and the town debates whether his rules for right living are sensible. Cedric then returns with an armful of candy bars, and his explanation sets the store talking about honesty in a new light.
