What happens

Luigi Basko, an Italian immigrant in Chicago, longs to visit his mother in Italy after a year away. His friend Pasquale offers to help him raise the money, and Luigi's night school classmates, including Mr. Olsen and Miss Spalding, agree to back a raffle to pay for his trip. Pasquale arranges a party at his restaurant and books a singer, Ralph Angelici, to perform. Luigi writes letters home to his mother as the plans take shape, and the raffle party begins in earnest. The series Life with Luigi was created by Cy Howard and stars J. Carrol Naish, with Alan Reed as Pasquale. The episode aired on March 13, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
