What happens

Luigi Basko, a young immigrant attending night school in Chicago, is sent home by his teacher, Miss Spaulding, after arriving late for the fourth time that week. Her sharp scolding wounds his pride, and he sulks, insisting he will never return to class unless she apologizes. His friends Pascale and Roserio try to cheer him up and reason with him, while Luigi writes letters to his mother in Italy about his experiences in America. The episode is from the Life with Luigi comedy series, first aired on January 6, 1953, starring J. Carol Nash as Luigi, with Alan Reed as Pascuali.

Chicago, America, in the early 1950s, including a night school classroom, a neighborhood street, and a restaurant where Luigi's friends gather.

Listen for: Luigi's letters to his mother in Italy, and his friends' attempts to talk him out of quitting night school.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
