What happens

Luigi Basko, a newcomer to Chicago, is preparing for a George Washington radio contest between local schools. His night school class, taught by Miss Spalding, is assigned a farewell address that the Swedish-accented Mr. Olson is to recite, but the plans change and the class must perform a short play about Washington's life instead. Luigi offers to write the script, and his friend Pasquale encourages him, though Luigi's own part in it grows larger than he intended. The episode is part of the Life with Luigi series, first broadcast on February 21, 1950, starring J. Carrol Naish as Luigi and Alan Reed as Pasquale.

Chicago, at a night school and a local radio station, around George Washington's birthday

Characters: Luigi Basko, Pasquale, Miss Spalding, Mr. Olson, Mr. Anderson, Dr. Schultz

Listen for: Luigi's attempt to write and star in a Washington play, and Pasquale's advice on how to handle the situation

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
