What happens

Chester A. Riley, a California war worker, is determined to enter his son Junior in the Silver Gloves amateur boxing tournament for the Brooklyn Patriots of Los Angeles club. Riley trains Junior at home, but Junior resists and his mother Peg is uneasy about the fighting. Riley's rivalry with neighbour Jim Gillis adds pressure, as Gillis enters his own son Eggbert. Riley's wife Peg and the family's situation are central to the story. The episode is from The Life of Riley, a comedy series, and first aired on January 7, 1945 on the Blue Network and ABC, with William Bendix and Paula Winslowe in the leading roles, alongside Hans Conried and Alan Reed.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
