What happens
Chester A. Riley is worn down by work, traffic, and his noisy household, and he decides he cannot cope with the children any longer. His wife Peg suggests a doctor, and the visit leaves him more rattled than before. Riley and Peg then travel to Palm Springs for a weekend away, which Riley calls a second honeymoon. Their plans for a quiet break keep running into the family and the people they meet there. The Life of Riley is a radio comedy series, and this episode aired on February 16, 1951, on the Blue Network and ABC and NBC. William Bendix stars as Riley, with Paula Winslowe as Peg.
Riley's home and a neighbourhood doctor's office, then the Coronet Lodge in Palm Springs, California.
Characters: Chester A. Riley, Peg Riley, Junior, Babs, Joe, Digger O'Dell
Listen for: Riley's escalating complaints about the children and his nerves, and the mix-up when he meets Digger O'Dell at the resort.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
