What happens
Chester A. Riley, a riveter at the California aircraft plant, is worried that his family does not respect him, and he decides to study for a promotion exam that will win a better job and a raise. His co-worker Gillis has urged him to take it seriously, and Riley enrolls in night school under the strict teacher Miss Jessup. William Bendix plays Riley in this episode of The Life of Riley, which aired on December 8, 1945, on the Blue Network and ABC, and NBC. Riley's determination to get ahead leads him into a tempting situation at the examination room, where a shifty acquaintance named Benny offers him a cheat sheet. The episode's first part sets up Riley's ambitions and the pressure he feels from his family and his job.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
