What happens
Chester A. Riley and his friend Jim Gillis are left waiting at a bus stop as drivers pass them by. Riley's dispute with a bus driver over a transfer leads him to a community improvement meeting, where he gets the group to back a lawsuit against the bus company. The Riley family and his friends press him, while the company's lawyer, Andrew Crow, makes offers and threats. In court, Riley argues the case himself, pointing to the exact value of a transfer and the time he spent walking home. The series is The Life of Riley, first broadcast on October 19, 1946, on the Blue Network and ABC, with William Bendix as Riley.
A city street corner and bus, the Riley household, a community meeting at the high school auditorium, and a courtroom.
Characters: Chester A. Riley, Jim Gillis, Peg Riley, Gilda, Bennett, Andrew Crow, Judge
Listen for: Riley arguing his case in court about the value of the transfer and the time he spent walking home.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
