What happens

Chester A. Riley learns that his father-in-law, Peg's father, is flying out to Los Angeles to visit and will stay with the family. Riley, who has long resented the older man, is unhappy at the news, while Peg and the children prepare for his arrival. When the visitor arrives, he quickly takes charge of the household, urging Riley to demand a raise and then offering him a job of his own. The Life of Riley aired on the Blue Network and NBC, with William Bendix in the title role, Paula Winslowe as Peg, and Alan Reed and Hans Conried in supporting parts. This episode was first broadcast on January 5, 1951.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
