What happens
Riley, a riveter at a California aircraft plant, is caught up in Halloween spirit two nights before the holiday. His son Junior is convinced the old Sherwin house on Chestnut Hill is haunted, and after a mock seance fails to settle the argument, Riley agrees to go inside with him. Riley is played by William Bendix in this 1944 broadcast of The Life of Riley, which aired on October 29 on the Blue Network. Inside the dark house they meet a living woman, Alice Sherwin, who has been living alone there since her husband's death. Riley talks with her about her loss and her place in the war effort.
A California town near an aircraft plant, on Halloween night, at the old Sherwin house on Chestnut Hill and the Riley home.
Characters: Riley, Junior, Digger, Alice Sherwin, Peg, Mrs. Cornwell
Listen for: Junior's rap-the-table seance and the moment Riley finds Alice Sherwin alive inside the house.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
