What happens
Chester A. Riley's son Junior and his friend Gillis are reading lurid comic books, and Riley's wife Peg fears the stories are corrupting them. Riley dismisses her worries until he and Gillis mistake the boys' game of spies for real espionage, and he later decides to collect and burn every comic book in the neighborhood. He is asked to speak at a Parent-Teacher Association meeting on the menace of such books, and he begins reading them himself to prepare. The episode is from The Life of Riley, broadcast on November 5, 1948, starring William Bendix as Riley and Paula Winslowe as Peg.
Riley's home and neighborhood, with a suburban street, a garage and a backyard, and the local junior high school.
Characters: Chester A. Riley, Peg Riley, Junior, Gillis, Digger O'Dell, Wesley Newkirk, Mrs. Williams
Listen for: Riley's escalating crusade against the comic books, and the comic-book stories Riley reads aloud.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
