What happens

Riley is a war worker in a Los Angeles suburb, living with his wife Peg, their children Junior and Chester, and his freeloading Uncle Baxter. When Baxter receives a letter from his wealthy brother Buckley in New York, Riley decides to pay for his uncle to travel there. Booking a train seat proves impossible, so Riley turns to a cut-rate travel agency, which sends Baxter on a meandering bus-and-boat route across the country. The Life of Riley is a half-hour comedy series, and this episode aired on April 30, 1944, starring William Bendix as Riley, with Hans Conried as Uncle Baxter.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
