What happens

Jim Riley, a machinist earning $59 a week in Los Angeles, guards his 17-year-old daughter Babs closely, forbidding her to go out with boys and objecting when she brings Tony Adams home. A tense evening follows, with Riley spying on the young couple from the kitchen and later following them to the car. Riley and Babs argue bitterly, and she declares she will move out. Riley's wife Peg tries to keep the peace between them, and the family's quarrel over privacy and parental control grows sharper as the episode goes on.

A family home in Los Angeles

Characters: Riley, Peg Riley, Babs Riley, Tony Adams

Listen for: Riley's escalating suspicion as he creeps around the house listening to Babs and Tony, and the heated argument when Babs announces she is leaving.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
