What happens

Chester A. Riley reads about a novel called My Lady Jezebel that a Boston society has tried to ban, and his daughter Babs is assigned to review it. Peg objects and Riley confiscates the book, but a mix-up with the book jackets leaves him reading a different, mild story about Lucy Lawrence. Riley then recommends the book to local church and community leaders, who soon arrive at his house to discuss it. The Life of Riley is a comedy series, and this episode aired on June 9, 1950, on the Blue Network and NBC, starring William Bendix as Riley with Paula Winslowe and Alan Reed in the cast.

The Riley home in Los Angeles, with a brief visit to a local school.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
