What happens
Jerry of the circus learns from Major Mike that his late grandfather, Gustave the Miser, was thought to be rich but left no trace of his money. Jerry and the performer Speed plan a prank on the Major, who is writing a letter in his tent after the show. The Major then hears a voice claiming to be Gustave, who says the gold is buried beneath an elm tree in Parker City. The Major resolves to travel there at once, and Mr. Randall, the circus manager, urges caution. The episode ends with Jerry and Speed facing the consequences of their joke and a telegram from the railroad.
A circus lot and the Major's tent, with a visit to Parker City in Montana's neighborhood of memory.
Characters: Jerry, Major Mike, Speed, Mr. Randall, Mike, Rosa
Listen for: The voice in the Major's tent and the tree in Parker City.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
