What happens

Jerry and his friends at the circus are shaken when the bearded lady wakes to find her beard has been cut off. Jason and Gump bring the news at dinner, and the lady refuses to appear before the company. Mr. Randall, the circus manager, finds a pair of scissors near her wagon and questions Jerry, who knows Clara lent him a similar pair that afternoon. Jerry is asked to produce the scissors, and his refusal to say who was involved leads Randall to take action against him. Earlier, the circus had been receiving threatening notes, which the bearded lady had apparently been involved with. This part of the episode does not settle the cause of the act.

A travelling circus, including the dining area, the bearded lady's wagon and the manager's office wagon.

Characters: Jerry, Carmen, Jason, Gump, Mr. Randall, Major, Clara, Alfredo

Listen for: Mr. Randall questioning Jerry about the scissors, and Jerry's refusal to name the person involved.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
