What happens
Jerry Dugan, a boy who says he belongs to the Randall Brothers Circus, is held by the police after a landlady, Mrs. O'Brien, files charges over unpaid board and room. Jason, a circus man, arrives at the station in a hurry, because the circus train leaves in only minutes. He offers to pay the twenty-two dollars owed so the boy can travel with the show. Jason must persuade Mrs. O'Brien by telephone to withdraw the charges. Meanwhile Jerry worries about his lost dog, Rags, and the two of them race to make the train. The series Jerry of the Circus, first broadcast on July 2, 1937, presents this fifth episode.
A police station and the town streets late at night, then the Randall Brothers Circus train as it prepares to leave town.
Characters: Jerry Dugan, Jason, Mrs. O'Brien, Patsy, Sergeant
Listen for: Jason's efforts to get Mrs. O'Brien on the telephone and convince her to withdraw the charges, and Jerry's search for his dog Rags.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
