What happens

Jack Benny tries to spend a quiet day off at home in Beverly Hills, sitting by the fire with a cigarette and hoping no one drops by. His valet Rochester tends to his needs while a series of visitors arrive, including Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Dennis Day. Each caller interrupts his plans to relax, and Benny keeps trying to read, watch television and rest. The program is a comedy of interruptions and playful banter, first broadcast on December 12, 1948 on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.

Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Daisy Dickinson, Polly

Listen for: Benny's repeated attempts to relax as visitors keep arriving, and Rochester's dry remarks

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
