What happens
Jack Benny runs a contest asking listeners to finish the sentence "I can't stand Jack Benny because," and his household sorts through the letters at his Beverly Hills home. Between the mail, Rochester, Mary Livingstone and Phil Harris trade jokes about Benny's vanity and thrift. Benny then goes to dinner at the Ronald Colmans next door, where he is an invited guest. The Colmans and their friend Jack Wellington are at the table with him. The 1945 episode of the Jack Benny program aired on NBC and CBS Radio.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
