What happens

Jack Benny celebrates the 17th anniversary in radio of his announcer Don Wilson, with gifts and a poem from Mary Livingstone and banter from Phil Harris and Dennis Day. Benny then introduces a sketch titled Mr. Benny Goes to Washington, a parody of Frank Capra's film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. In it, Benny plays a freshly elected senator from Illinois who arrives in the capital, delivers his first speech, and launches a filibuster over fresh ink and blotters for his hometown post office. The program is part of the Jell-O series, broadcast in 1940.

A radio studio during a Sunday broadcast of the Jell-O program, followed by a comedy sketch set in the Illinois town of Waukegan and in Washington, D.C.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
