What happens
Jack Benny gathers his cast before a trip to San Francisco, where the show will broadcast. Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris join him in the studio as Benny and Mary argue over his wartime service. A former shipmate named Flanagan visits Benny, and the cast swaps jokes about Benny's Navy days. Benny packs for the trip, stops at his vault to collect money, and learns that the war in Europe has ended. The transcript breaks off as he hurries to catch his train.
A radio studio and the Benny household, with a bank vault and a train station, in May 1945 as the European war ends.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Eddie Anderson, Phil Harris, Flanagan
Listen for: Benny's account of his Navy days, Flanagan's visit, and Benny's news at the vault that Germany has surrendered.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
