What happens
Jack Benny is on a personal appearance tour in Cleveland, Ohio, and is preparing in his dressing room while his valet Rochester fusses over him. A local reporter, Mr. Kerns, interviews Benny about the tour schedule and asks how the cast first came together. Benny recalls meeting Mary Livingston in a Los Angeles department store, then describes how he hired Phil Harris and how Mary discovered Dennis Day. The guide draws on Benny's recollections, including a sponsored quartet, a nightclub audition, and a visit to Dennis Day's family home. The episode is the last broadcast of the 1950 season, and Benny closes with a note that the season is ending.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
