What happens
Jack Benny and his cast perform a live broadcast from Tyrnie General Hospital in Palm Springs for patients and military personnel. The program, part of the Jack Benny series, aired on April 8, 1945, and features Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Eddie Anderson. Benny jokes about his peanut vending machines, and a customer demands a penny back after a machine fails to deliver. Friction breaks out between Benny and Phil Harris over which of them is the better actor, leading Benny to retreat home. Rochester attends him there, and the household staff continues the comic routine through the evening.
Tyrnie General Hospital in Palm Springs, and later Jack Benny's home in Palm Springs
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Rochester, Don Wilson, Eddie Anderson, William
Listen for: The peanut vending machine gags, the quarrel between Benny and Phil Harris over acting ability, and Benny asking Rochester and William for their opinions of his acting.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
