What happens

Jack Benny opens the first program of the new season of his Jell-O series, which aired on NBC and CBS Radio on October 8, 1939. He drives around town with Rochester, collecting Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Don Wilson so they can make it to the studio on time. The group bickers over the old car, Harris's unrehearsed band and Benny's vacation, and Benny is worried about the young singer Dennis Day, whose mother is slow to bring him to the studio.

Listen for: Benny's squabbles with Mary and Rochester in the car, and the arrival of Dennis Day and his mother at the studio.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
