What happens

Jack Benny and his cast perform in a comedy episode of the Jack Benny program. Jack's violin is missing, and he hires a private detective to find it while his friends tease him about being cheap. Mary Livingston is acting strangely after her turn in a play, and Phil Harris leads the orchestra. The show includes a Western spoof, Buck Benny Rides Again, in which Buck, a sheriff, pursues the outlaw Cactus Face. Phil Harris plays Buck's friend Frank Carson, and Mary plays a passenger on the train to New York. The episode's sponsor, Jell-O, is also promoted during the broadcast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
